Removing heavy ice buildup from the freezer evaporator after diagnosing a faulty defrost thermostat.

Frigidaire French Door Refrigerator – Freezer Ice Buildup Repair

Excessive frost or ice buildup on the freezer evaporator in a Frigidaire French door refrigerator can be caused by several issues, including:

Defective defrost thermostat
Failed defrost heater
Faulty evaporator thermistor or temperature sensor
Defrost control or main control board problem
Evaporator fan or airflow problem
Freezer door not closing completely
Damaged or leaking door gasket allowing warm, humid air inside
Blocked air vents
Clogged or frozen defrost drain
Loose or damaged wiring in the defrost system

Diagnosis & Repair:
This Frigidaire French door refrigerator had excessive ice buildup around the freezer evaporator, restricting proper airflow and affecting normal cooling performance.

After inspecting and testing the defrost system, the problem was traced to a faulty defrost thermostat. The accumulated ice was first carefully removed from the evaporator using steam. Once the evaporator was fully defrosted and accessible, the faulty defrost thermostat was replaced.

After the repair, the refrigerator was tested to confirm proper operation of the defrost system and normal airflow through the freezer compartment.
